Country singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has been criticized for filing trademark applications for song lyrics, such as “This Sick Beat.”, “Cause We Never Go out of Style” and “party like it’s 1989”.

With the Ice Bucket Challenge being the recent internet craze and most of the population taking part, it was no surprise when The ALS Association filed an application to obtain U.S. trademark registration

A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, logo or design, or a combination of these, used to identify and distinguish the goods or services of one person or organisation from those of others, or more importantly your competitors. Your trademark can be used as your marketing tool as this how others will recognise your products or services, it is your identity.

There is no legal requirement to register a Trade Mark but if you want to protect your brand we strongly recommend you Trade Mark your logo, symbol, design or words.
